Chapter 1 – Overview and Learning Objectives
Overview
The Internet of Things, called “IoT” for short, is playing a role in helping growers all over the world better use water for growing plants; whether that is a golf course superintendent, a wheat farmer, a tomato greenhouse grower, or an urban rooftop gardener.
Each grower using an IoT irrigation system can see the status of the system on their phone and optimize the timing and amount of irrigation and even control the water delivery remotely over the internet. In this module you will learn more about IoT.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this set of lessons, you will be able to:
- Describe the basic concept of the Internet of Things (IoT) and how it can be used in agriculture.
- Identify the components of the CSU IoT Sensor Kit and describe the basic purpose and function of each.
- Take air temperature and moisture measurements using the CSU IoT Sensor Kit.
- Explain causes of data variation.
